A state-by-state view of youth firesetting prevention and intervention cases drawn from the YFIRES case-management platform, contributed by fire service, burn-center, and juvenile-services programs across the country.
Shading reflects the number of YFIRES case records placed in each state, primarily by incident and caregiver ZIP code. Select a state on the map, or from the list, to see its profile. States shown in gray have no case in this extract placed within them.

YFIRES case-management export of August 25, 2026: 7,540 case records contributed by 234 fire department, county, burn-center, and juvenile-services youth firesetting prevention and intervention programs. Fields follow the 20 national dataset items reported by the YFIRES platform.
Figures were validated against the YFIRES system's own national and local summary reports generated from the same extract. Submitted-scope figures match the official national summary report. All-cases figures reflect the raw export, which for some incomplete intakes carries recorded values that the YFIRES local reporting engine counts as no-response, so small differences from the local summary report are expected on a few fields.
Each case was placed in a state using its incident ZIP code first and its primary caregiver ZIP code as a fallback; where both ZIP codes agree on a state they do so 99.6 percent of the time. Cases with no usable ZIP were assigned from their program's location when the program's other cases place it consistently in one state.
99.8 percent of cases were placed. Twelve cases from programs that could not be confidently located remain Unknown and are excluded from state totals, so state counts should be read as a floor.
Submitted cases are complete and have been submitted into the YFIRES national dataset. Finalized cases are complete but have not been submitted to the national dataset. Active cases are still open. All statuses matter; the toggle at the top of the page switches every figure between all cases and the submitted national dataset.
YFIRES was created in 2015 and released in 2016. Incident dates before 2015 are legacy cases uploaded into the system and are summarized separately rather than charted. Cases with no valid incident date are excluded from date-based charts only. 2026 is a partial year through the extract date.
38 of 50 states have at least one placed case in this extract. A gray state means no participating program's cases were placed there, not that the state has no youth firesetting problem. Coverage reflects which programs contribute to YFIRES.
States with fewer than 10 placed cases show totals and contributing programs only. Demographic and incident-level breakdowns are withheld at that scale to avoid characterizing an individual youth's case.
